About Summit Logo

The logo of the 3rd Global Summit on Diamond Open Access – Bengaluru 2026 visually communicates the principles and values of Diamond Open Access—knowledge as a shared, non-commercial, and globally accessible public good.

At the centre of the logo is a Knowledge Tree, symbolising the growth, continuity, and interconnectedness of scholarly knowledge. The tree represents research rooted in long-standing academic traditions and public institutions, growing through collective effort and branching across disciplines, languages, regions, and knowledge systems. Its many leaves reflect the diversity of scholarly contributions that flourish when knowledge is open and equitably shared.

Alongside the Knowledge Tree stands a stylised elephant, a symbol of wisdom, strength, responsibility, and steady progress. The elephant represents collective stewardship and resilience—qualities essential for sustaining community-owned, scholarly communication infrastructures that underpin Diamond Open Access.

Prominently placed on the elephant is a white diamond shape, directly representing the Diamond Open Access model. The diamond signifies clarity, integrity, and enduring value, highlighting that this form of open access is free for both authors and readers and grounded in academic and public-interest principles.

Within the diamond is an open lock containing a globe, a powerful symbol of unlocking knowledge for the world. This element represents the removal of financial, legal, and structural barriers to access, while emphasising that openness is achieved through responsible, secure, and community-governed systems.

The logo’s earth-toned colour palette, inspired by natural and cultural hues, reflects sustainability, ethical stewardship, and a long-term commitment to inclusive and globally shared knowledge infrastructures.
